The American shoe brand customizes the boat of the only Italian competing at the 50th edition of Solitaire URGO Le Figaro, Alberto Bona, with Docksides graphicsÂ
Torino, 21st March 2019 – Docksides shoes are back in first class sailing competitions. From 26 may to 25 June, Sebago® will sponsor Turin-born Alberto Bona’s boat for the 50th edition of Solitaire URGO Le Figaro, one of the most important international sailing competions.
The American shoe brand, established in Maine in 1946, will customize the boat of the 33-year-old skipper with Docksides graphics. An entirely new boat, just launched and wholly branded on the sides and sail, where Sebago® Docksides lettering features underneath the stars and stripes, a reference to the brand’s origins.
After sponsoring classic competions like the O-Star Race, Celebrity Regatta, and the American Cup in the 80s, Sebago® Docksides take to the seas again.
"I'm very happy about this collaboration with Sebago®, who were the first to believe in me and support me. The world of sailing, my own world, also finds expression through Docksides, the true boating shoes. With them I'll sail across many seas and I hope that other partners - with the same strength and the same desire to take on new challenges - will decide to come with us soon!" says Alberto Bona.
The boat the skipper will be sailing with has been named “Kiniska”; just like Kiniska was the first woman to win a competition at the Olympic Games in Ancient Greece, it will be a first for Bona at Solitaire URGO Le Figaro, where he’ll be the only Italian competing.
«It’s true – he says – I’m the only Italian competing in this solo race; but I feel more European, although the feeling of belonging is always with me, quite present».
